The Investment for the Future Programme 3 (PIA3) launched by the French Government in 2018, finances internationally recognised Graduate Schools in France, the so-called Ecoles Universitaires de Recherche (EUR).
A EUR offers its university the possibility to strengthen the impact and international attractiveness of its research and training in a specific scientific area. A EUR is meant to ensure a continuum between training and research (master's degree and doctorate).
The EUR have a structuring character for the French higher education and research system. They aim to
- strongly link the training and research and professional insertion,
- enhance the thematic strengths of institutions throughout France, and
- contribute to the international influence and attractiveness of France by - mobilising an internationally recognised instrument (graduate schools),
- building strategic international partnerships, and
- attracting the best students.

Each EUR project has been selected by an international jury.
The EUR "EURIDOL - Graduate School of Pain" is one of 4 EURs based at the University of Strasbourg.
It is financed by the PIA3 for 10 years.
