First laureates of the EURIDOL End-of-thesis support
EURIDOL Graduate School of Pain offers “End-of-thesis-support” to EURIDOL PhD-candidates in the final year of their thesis
Léa Becker is a PhD student in the team Neuroanatomy, Pain and Psychopathologies (INCI, CNRS UPR3212) under the supervision of Dr Ipek Yalcin. During her PhD, Léa comprehensively dissected the role of the amygdalo-cingulate pathway in the emotional processing in physiological and pathological conditions especially in depression in mice. She recently highlighted a shared transcriptomic signature of depression between human and mice. During the 4th year of her PhD thesis, she is finishing the key experiment of her project aiming at demonstrating a causal link between the molecular alterations and the behavioural outcomes. The support from EURIDOL will allow her to visit different laboratories in the USA and participate in conferences in order to find the best postdoctoral fellowship.
Lou Cathenaut has started her doctoral internship in 2017 at the Institut de Neurosciences Cellulaires et Intégratives under the direction of Sylvain Hugel (INCI, CNRS UPR3212). During her thesis, Lou examined the role of short-term synaptic plasticity in tuning the excitation/inhibition balance within spinal networks involved in the processing of nociceptive (potentially painful) information. This tuning in the excitation/inhibition balance depends on the frequency of activity and may be engaged during non-pharmacological approaches for the alleviation of pain. The support from EURIDOL will allow Lou to organise a workshop bringing together clinicians using these approaches and scientists carrying out fundamental research on the spinal-cord.
