Edited by Pierrick POISBEAU and Meggane MELCHIOR. Physiological and pathological mechanisms of pain and analgesia.

BOOK PRESENTATION

A reference work for the initial and continuing training of all health and care professionals, this manual offers a progressive course of study, giving them the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the most advanced mechanistic aspects of pain and analgesia, as studied by neuroscience. Beyond that, the manual offers sociological, anthropological and psychological approaches necessary for a comprehensive understanding of individuals. Drawing on the integrative health dimension specific to this medicine dedicated to complex pathologies, the book incorporates complementary therapies. It reaffirms the scientific basis (often misunderstood or rejected by doctors) of these traditional pain relief approaches (music, hypnosis, manual therapies, CBT, etc.) and emerging approaches (virtual reality, e-health).
